Homecoming on Amazon Prime
So a few weeks ago was talking to a friend and we were talking about streaming services and I admitted that Amazon Prime was low on my list and that I rarely go to them for new content. Of course, the person I told this to LOVES Amazon Prime. So I decided to give it a shot.
I recently started watching Homecoming and these are my thoughts.
First, I want to say My Best Friend's Wedding is (one of many) my favorite movie of all time. The reunion of Julia Roberts and Dermot Mulroney was heartwarming and I truly appreciate the on-screen reunion. However, their relationship on this show is trash and complicated. That's about all I have to say about this reunion.
Now back to the show…
Do you like Hitchcock movies? Then this show is for you!
In a very Hitchcock fashion, Homecoming is a little slow and there isn’t much dialogue to follow along but visually so you must make sure you are paying attention. There are some other techniques that are very similar to Vertigo and other movies Hitchcock directed. The development of the show is very slow for 30-minute episodes. I am currently halfway through the first season and I am finally beginning to understand what is happening. Overall the concept is interesting I am really excited to see where this goes. Unlike many shows, you don't know what to expect for the next episode and it keeps you wondering which is refreshing.
As for the editing, the only thing that really caught my attention was that they often jumped between two different aspect ratios of 16:9 to 1:1. For a while, it was bothering me but then I realized that this was their way to differentiate the past and the present. Overall the story is pretty slow so the cut is pretty slow but great things take time.
I am really excited to see how this show ends and overall recommend for you to watch if you want something that will keep you wondering episode to episode. But also this cast is great and the characters are well developed through the series of flashbacks and the present.
